Terms of Service

Beside is a small product that lets one partner record a short voice clip and a few notes, and arranges for those to greet the other partner during study breaks. These terms set out what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.

1. Who we are

Beside is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], reachable at hello@beside.tw. References to we, us, or Beside mean that entity. References to you mean the person creating an account.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Beside. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement and that the information you give us is accurate.

3. Your account

You sign in with Google. You’re responsible for keeping that Google account secure. If anyone else gets access to it, they get access to your Beside account — tell us right away if that happens.

4. The service in plain language

When you set up Beside for someone, you upload a short voice recording, a photo, and answers to a small questionnaire. We use those, plus replies the recipient sends back, to generate brief text-and-voice messages that appear in their study app during breaks. The text is generated by a large language model; the voice is synthesised from your recording by ElevenLabs.

5. Voice cloning — your responsibilities

This section is the most important one. By uploading a voice recording to Beside you represent and warrant all of the following:

• The voice in the recording is your own, or you have explicit, documented permission from the person whose voice it is to clone it for use in Beside.
• You are not uploading the voice of a public figure, celebrity, deceased person, minor, or any third party who has not given the consent above.
• You will not use the cloned voice to impersonate the speaker for fraudulent, harassing, defamatory, or illegal purposes — inside Beside or anywhere else.
• You understand Beside passes the recording to ElevenLabs, our voice processor, and that ElevenLabs’s own voice cloning policy also applies.

If we receive a credible report that a voice was uploaded without consent — from the speaker, a representative, or our processors — we will delete the cloned voice and may suspend or terminate the account. We may also be required to share information with ElevenLabs or law enforcement as part of resolving the report.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Beside to:

• Send messages designed to harass, threaten, manipulate, or coerce the recipient, or to interfere with their wellbeing.
• Impersonate anyone other than yourself (including the consenting partner whose voice you’ve uploaded under § 5).
• Upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
• Probe, scan, or attempt to bypass security or rate limits, extract model outputs in bulk, or use automated tools to abuse the service.

7. The recipient’s side

When you send the gift link, the recipient signs in with Google and we verify their address matches the one you entered. If the addresses don’t match we refuse to claim the gift. We do not send unsolicited messages to anyone other than the recipient you specified, and we won’t add anyone to a marketing list without their consent.

8. Your content and the licence we need to operate

You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give Beside a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, transmit, and process that content for the sole purpose of operating the service for you — generating messages, displaying them in the app, and producing analytics and operational metrics. We do not use your content to train shared models for other customers, and we do not sell it.

9. Subscription, billing, refunds

10. Privacy

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. By using Beside you agree to that handling.

11. Termination

You can cancel any time from your account page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms — most often that means a credible voice-cloning consent report (§ 5) or a clear acceptable-use breach (§ 6). On termination we delete your cloned voice from ElevenLabs within 30 days and your account data from our database within 90 days, except where law requires longer retention.

12. AI disclaimers

Beside uses generative AI. Two things follow from that:

• The notes the recipient sees are generated, not pre-written. They can be wrong, awkward, or off-tone — especially in the first week before the AI has learned from her replies.
• Beside is not therapy, medical advice, or a crisis resource. If the recipient is in distress, please reach out to a real person and, if needed, a local crisis line.

13. Warranties and liability

Beside is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, [PLACEHOLDER — disclaimers and liability cap; a lawyer should localise this for the governing jurisdiction].

14. Governing law

15. Changes

We’ll post any material change on this page and update the date at the top. Continued use after a change means you accept it. If you don’t agree, cancel your account.
